but never out of the country
i can’t wait to leave, you confess —
it’s heavy,
the weight of this town
its history
the expectations it puts
on those it calls its own
and you haven’t even been here that long
we talk about getting away from here:
cable cars in cape town,
vintage cars along the amalfi coast
picnics in the south of france
let’s get lost together, i say
away from here
away from history, expectations
let’s get far away
we’ll bring two suitcases of matching clothes:
hers and hers
